English and Modern Languages

French
Available as a minor

The French minor is intentionally designed with few hours to allow students to add this minor easily. Students hoping to work in government or business with French-speaking societies, or students wishing to become proficient in more than one language, are encouraged to add the French minor to their studies.

The French minor introduces students to a working knowing of French and French culture –– speaking, listening, reading, writing and cultural appreciation. Coursework will enrich preparation for working abroad, appreciating others and their cultures.

Students can waive four to eight hours of language depending on the years of high school French they completed.

Students may travel to French Canada on a 10-day study trip to earn conversation credit. While practicing their conversation skills, students will tour the area to gain a first-hand appreciation for the culture.

French is part of the Department of English and Modern Languages within the College of Arts and Sciences.
