English as a Second Language
Available as a minor
This minor gives students the coursework needed to prepare for Illinois state ESL endorsement. For non-education majors, it provides the foundations and experience needed to teach ESL in cross-culture ministries or for international non-profit organizations.
Most colleges of our size and mission do not offer this minor, so we are unique in creating a minor that brings English and Modern Languages together. It is taught by faculty members who have expertise in linguistics and cross-cultural understanding.
Students will complete hours of practicum to practice what they are learning at churches, schools, or international ministries.
A recently added program, graduates with ESL minors are already having their pick of job opportunities. Our first graduate was a Spanish major and ESL minor. She was offered several teaching positions and was accepted into the Golden Apple Scholar program, a program that trains teachers for excellence in working with English Language Learners.
