Strategic Plan - The Second Century

University Goals

  1. Enhance academic quality

In the ongoing pursuit of academic excellence, we will continue to develop superior programs and resources for students and faculty that we may carry on the legacy of producing alumni equipped to make a significant impact on the world at large.

  2. Improve campus living environment for traditional undergraduates

We will create a campus environment that inspires personal success and promotes genuine community. Focusing on the development of the whole person, we will provide personnel, resources and activities promoting social, physical and emotional maturity. We will enhance existing structures and landscaping, and construct additional facilities, to simultaneously meet the needs of a vibrant University campus and protect the environmental resources with which God has blessed us.

  3. Maintain an undergraduate enrollment of 2,500 students

We will remain true to our campus ethos by welcoming as many traditional undergraduate students as possible without surpassing the size at which we can most effectively live out our mission. With the mindset of recruiting alumni, we will focus our admission efforts on those students who are most likely to flourish within the Olivet Experience, and once those students are enrolled, we will provide them the resources and support needed to succeed through graduation and beyond.

  4. Enroll 5,000 students in the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies

With the world as our classroom, there is no limit to the reach of Olivet Nazarene University. We will continue to develop new continuing studies and graduate programs to serve the working adults of the Chicagoland area and beyond. We will connect with these non-traditional students where they are by providing practical, accredited programs at alternate locations and online.

  5. Increase the level of financial support for the University

In order that we may continue to make “Education With a Christian Purpose” a reality for students of all economic backgrounds, we will seek to increase the level of giving from our alumni, friends and churches, and we will explore additional sources of revenue.

  6. Improve the financial health and viability of the University

As careful stewards of God’s resources, we will strengthen the long-term financial health of Olivet by implementing procedures, checks and balances to systematically reduce existing —and avoid future — debt, and to steadily augment the University’s financial reserves.

  7. Strengthen the constituent relationships of the University

Strong communication is at the core of every thriving relationship, and we intend to further improve interaction with each of the individuals and groups that make up the Olivet community. Through meaningful contact with our students, faculty and staff, alumni, friends and churches, we will ensure that information flows freely to and from the University, and that our constituents understand just how much we value them.
