ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – Despite winning a program-high five events and finishing second in seven events, the Olivet Nazarene University women’s swim team came up a little short in their dual-meet at Lewis University on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Tigers fell 159-102 to the Flyers.
Junior Samantha Elam (Granada Hills, Cal.) captured top finishes in the 1000-yard freestyle (11:04.05) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:26.54), while finishing second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:00.72).
Freshman Mary Wilson (Fort Collins, Colo.) touched the pad first in the 100-yard backstroke (1:02.82) and finished second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:15.98). Freshman Kelsey Weener (Holland, Mich.) captured first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.59), while freshman Katie Jo Snyder (Lima, Ohio) took the 100-yard freestyle (56.26). Freshman Sydney Harris (Fort Wayne, Ind.) took three second place finishes: 100-yard breaststroke (1:09.15), 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.80) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:15.70).
Wilson, Harris, sophomore Natalie VanDenack (Hastings, Mich.) and senior Melissa Wright (Bourbonnais, Ill.) posted a 4:09.02 time in the 400-yard medley relay, finishing in second place. The 400-yard medley relay team of Weener, Elam, Wright and Snyder also finished second with a time of 3:44.01.
The Tigers will host Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 11:00 a.m. in the Aquatics Center of the new Student Life and Recreation Center.
