Olivet kicks off swim season

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Olivet Nazarene University women’s swim team showed how hard they had been working, finishing fourth in their first ever swim meet on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Woehnker Invitational hosted by Wabash College (Ind.).
Carthage College (Wis.) took the top spot with 730.5 points, followed by the University of Indianapolis and DePauw University (Ind.) with 647 and 593 points, respectively. The Tigers finished the weekend with 334 points.
Freshman Sydney Harris (Fort Wayne, Ind.) placed in the top five in three individual events, while freshmen Mary Wilson (Fort Collins, Colo.) and Kelsey Weener (Holland, Mich.) and sophomore Natalie VanDenack (Hastings, Mich.) finished with two top-five finishes apiece.
Harris posted a third place finish in both the 100-yard Breaststroke (1:10.27) and the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:34.89). She finished fifth in the 400yd Individual Medley (4:53.54). Wilson posted a second place finish in the 100-yard Backstroke (1:01.73) and place fourth in the 200-yard Backstroke (2:16.41).
Weener swam the first leg of the 200-yard Freestyle Relay team which finished fourth (1:44.31), with VanDenack, freshman Laura Thomson (Tinley Park, Ill.) and anchor Randi Mortimer (Rapid City, S.D.). Weener also posted a fifth place individual finish in the 50-yard Freestyle (25.36), and VanDenack finished fourth in the 100-yard Butterfly (1.01:19).Rounding out the top five finishes was junior Samantha Elam (Granada Hills, Cal.) finished fifth in the 500-yard Freestyle (5:24.23).
The Tigers will return to the lanes on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 11 a.m. at Wheaton College.
