BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – It had been three seasons since the No. 12 Olivet Nazarene University women’s basketball team had lost twice in one season to the same Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) team, but Roosevelt University (Ill.) walked out of McHie Arena on Wednesday, Jan. 23 having done it again. The Lakers handed the Tigers their first loss of the season on Nov. 24 and repeated the showing last night, winning 92-88. Roosevelt moves into the top spot in the conference standings, leading the Tigers and Saint Xavier University (Ill.) by a half of a game.

Olivet (17-5, 13-3) struggled early in the game connecting on shots and protecting the ball, allowing Roosevelt (19-5, 14-3) to gain momentum and jump out to an early lead. The Tigers, led by senior Danielle Tolbert (Pontiac, Mich.) and sophomore Ashley Wilson (Portage, Mich.), fought back and entered the locker room at the half with a 54-48 lead.

The Tigers held on to the lead until the 14 minute mark when the Lakers tied it up. The teams battled back and forth until Roosevelt took the lead for good with six minutes to play. Roosevelt finished the night shooting 36-of-75 (.480) from the field and 11-of-21 (.524) from behind the three point line, while Olivet was a only 28-of-103 (.272) and 12-of-48 (.250), respectively.

“I thought our girls played very hard and did a great job on the press creating turnovers,” said head coach Lauren Stamatis. “We didn’t convert on a number of shots in the second half, while Roosevelt shot very well from the field. We still need to be better about taking care of the ball.”

Tolbert finished the night with 13 points and five rebounds, while Wilson also added 13 points with six rebounds. Junior Malory Adams (Aurora, Ill.) added 10, four rebounds and five blocked shots. The Tigers committed a total of 24 turnovers, with Roosevelt getting credit for 12 steals. Olivet finished with 28 steals, led by junior Tai Peachey (Galesburg, Ill.) who finished with seven.

Olivet will travel to Trinity Christian College for a 1:00 p.m. CCAC match-up on Saturday, Jan. 26. The two last met on Nov. 28 with the Tigers winning 98-44.
