Chicago – The Olivet Nazarene University women’s basketball team had not lost a Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) regular season game since Feb. 15, 2011 when it found itself on the short end of at 112-96 final score against Roosevelt University (Ill.) on Saturday, Nov. 24. The Tigers entered the game with a 4-0, but faced a well prepared Lakers team.
“They simply outplayed us,” said head coach Lauren Stamatis. “We turned the ball over too many times and only met one of our five game goals. When we don’t meet those, we cannot expect to win.”
The No. 13 Tigers (4-1, 4-1) finished with four players in double digits, led by sophomore Ashley Wilson’s 17. Wilson (Portage, Mich.) finished with a field goal percentage of .364 (4-of-11) and a free-throw percentage of .818 (9-of-11). She also pulled in seven rebounds and dished out two assists.
Junior Taylor Haymes (Wentzville, Mo.) contributed 14 points, while adding two assists and three steals. Sophomore Miranda Geever (Moline, Ill.) also added 14 points and junior Liz Bart (Cary, Ill.) 10.
“To Roosevelt’s credit, they played hard and did a nice job,” continued Stamatis. “We just have to take this loss as a teaching opportunity to learn, get better and improve.”
Olivet will return to the court at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 28 hosting Trinity Christian College (Ill.) in McHie Arena. The Trolls enter the game with an overall record of 2-7 and 1-5 in the CCAC.
