VALPARAISO, Ind. – The Olivet Nazarene University volleyball team easily defeated Purdue University-North Central in straight sets on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 25-13, 25-15, 25-16. The Tigers out-performed the Panthers in every category in route to the victory.
Olivet’s (6-20, 5-6) offensive attack was led by freshman Beck DeRuiter (Chicago Heights, Ill.) and senior Carolyn Goettsch (Utica, Mich.). Goettsch ended the match with 10 kills in 19 attempts with zero attack errors. She finished the night with a .526 attack percentage. DeRuiter finished the night with 11 kills in 21 attempts, with just 3 errors for an attack percentage of.381. Freshman setter Renee Enz (Wilmington, Ill.) dished out 32 assists and provided two service aces.
The Tiger’s defense was anchored by sophomore Haley Hatalla (Manteno, Ill.) who ended the night with 16 digs, while freshman Carly Wenzelman (Bonfield, Ill.) added 13 digs and five aces.
Olivet will return to their home court on Thursday, Oct. 11 after a 26 day leave which included 13 road matches. The Tigers will host the University of St. Francis (Ill.) in a CCAC match-up at 7 p.m.
