HOMEWOOD, Ill. — After a four-month layoff from the last time the No. 13-ranked ONU men’s tennis team saw action, the Tigers were back at it in their first match of the spring season. Olivet hosted Lindenwood University-Belleville (Ill.) at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet and Fitness Club on Friday, February 15. The Tigers showed no rust as they defeated Lindenwood-Belleville 9-0.
The Tigers (2-0) were dominant in singles’ play, winning 6-0 in five separate sets. All six Tigers who competed won matches: senior (#9 ITA) Julian Kurz (Stuttgart, Germany) won (6-2, 7-5); senior (#42 ITA) Diego Gonsalvez (San Luis Potosi, Mexico) won (6-3, 6-0); Camilo Giraldo (Medellin, Colombia) won (6-3, 6-0); Peter Jensen (Yuba City, Calif.) won (6-0, 6-4); Josue Sanchez (Morelia, Mexico ) won (6-1, 6-0); and Seth Perry (Jefferson, Ohio) won (6-4, 6-0).
In doubles play, the number four ranked ITA team in the nation, Kurz and Gonsalez, won 8-1; Giraldo and Jensen won 8-5; and Sanchez and sophomore Addison Newell (Williamsport, Ind.) won 8-3.
The Tigers will be in action again on Monday, February 18, as they travel to DePauw University (Ind.) for a 3:30 p.m. match.
