Tigers return home on four-game winning streak

TUCSON, Ariz. – Riding a four-game winning streak, the Olivet Nazarene University softball team returns home from spring break after a solid 7-4 week at the Tucson Invitational. The Tigers capped off the week with a 9-1 win over Dickinson State University on Saturday, March 11 after defeating Hiram University and Presentation College decisively on Friday.

Megan Semro (SR/Marengo, Ill.) and Kelly Rinker (FR/St. Charles, Ill. ) led the Tigers 12 hit outing, both going 3-for-4 at the plate. Rinker connected for a triple, while Semro added a double and four RBIs. Samantha Alberto (JR/Tinley Park, Ill.) added a home run, also finishing with four RBIs.

Erica Cebulski (JR/Lockport, Ill.) picked up her first win on the season, going the distance in the circle. In five innings, she allowed six hits and five runs, three earned. She struck out three and walked three.

Emily Carstens (SO/Peotone, Ill.) improved to 4-2 on the season in the circle, throwing all seven innings. She scattered just four hits and struck out five.

Makenna Emerson (FR/Coal City, Ill.) and Carstens both connected for home runs to lead the Tigers offense. Emerson also added a double. Carstens finished with a team-high three RBIs.

Olivet Nazarene 9   Dickinson State 1

Carstens and Emerson combined for seven of the Tiger's 14 hits in the final game. Carstens connected on a double and a triple with four RBIs and a run scored. Emerson went a perfect 4-for-4.

Jamie Kiefer (JR/Chicago, Ill.) threw all seven innings, allowing four hits. She struck out six, while walking none.

Olivet returns to Bourbonnais and will hope that Mother Nature is ready for spring to arrive in Illinois. The Tigers are scheduled to face the University of St. Francis (Ill.) on Wednesday, March 22 on Tiger Field. Game one is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
