NOBLESVILLE, Ind. — It didn't take long for the Olivet Nazarene University women's golf
team to get back into form after five months off from competition. On Saturday afternoon, March 25, 2017, the Tigers were crowned champions of the Taylor University (Indiana) Purgatory Intercollegiate.
They were led by individual medalist Mackenzie Mehaffey (sophomore, Winchester, Indiana), who won by two strokes. Two other Tigers finished in the top 10: Stephanie Eby (sophomore, Lemont, Illinois) and Sydney Tyler (senior, Bloomington, Illinois).
A total of 33 golfers played in the 36-hole, two-day event at the par-72, 5,810-yard course, Purgatory Golf Club. ONU won the invite with a team score of 675 (344-331, +99). Taylor University came in second with a score of 678 (346-332, +102). Wheaton College (Illinois) was third with a score of 682 (359-323, +106). Huntington University (Indiana) finished fourth with a 755 (377-378, +179). IU-Kokomo was fifth with a 760 (390-370, +184).
The Tigers completely dominated the top 20. Mackenzie Mehaffey shot a 162 (80-82, +18) to win the Tigers' first event back from the off-season. Stephanie Eby finished fourth overall with a 168 (85-83, +24). Sydney Tyler finished tied for fifth overall, just one stroke back of Eby, with a 169 (86-83, +25). Kayla Owens (FR/Richmond, Ind.) came in tied for 14th with a 176 (93-83, +32).
