Best-selling author and viral TED speaker Susan Cain to be featured at 2014 Summit

Posted: Jul 14, 2014

“I believe that introversion is my greatest strength,” said Susan Cain, acclaimed author and today’s leading speaker on that topic. “I have such a strong inner life that I’m never bored and only occasionally lonely. No matter what mayhem is happening around me, I know I can always turn inward.”

Cain is one of 14 featured speakers for Willow Creek Association’s 2014 Global Leadership Summit. Olivet Nazarene University is partnering with College Church of the Nazarene to host this premier leadership training event August 14 and 15, at College Church’s North Campus in Bourbonnais, Illinois.

Cain’s extensive research into the leadership strengths of introverts became the basis for her award-winning New York Times best seller Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World that Can't Stop Talking. Sparking a conversation about management stereotypes, the book has been translated into 36 languages and became a TIME cover story.

Her TED talk, “The Power of Introverts,” ranks among the most watched on — with more than 8 million views — and was named by Bill Gates as one of his all-time favorite talks. Fast Company magazine named her book as best book of the year in 2012 and also named her one of its Most Creative People in Business.

The co-founder of Quiet Revolution LLC, Cain has partnered with office design company Steelcase to create “Susan Cain Quiet Spaces,” with a range of architecture, furniture, materials and technology to empower introverts at work.

An honors graduate of Princeton University and Harvard Law School — and a self-described introvert — Cain's early career was spent on Wall Street as a corporate attorney and negotiations consultant. Her clients included JP Morgan and General Electric, and she trained all kinds of people, from hedge fund managers to TV producers to college students negotiating their first salaries.

Other leadership experts presenting at this year’s event include: Bill Hybels, Jeffrey Immelt, Tyler Perry, Joseph Grenny, Wilfredo De Jesús, Patrick Lencioni, Carly Fiorina, Ivan Satyavrata, Bryan Loritts, Allen Catherine Kagina, Louie Giglio, Erica Ariel Fox and Don Flow. The Summit is a two-day event that seeks to transform leaders around the world with an injection of vision, skill development and inspiration from a Christian perspective. This is a unique opportunity for business, church, government, nonprofit and education leaders — and their teams — to experience quality leadership training close to where they are. All are invited and encouraged to attend.
