Beginning at 9 a.m., an exciting, inspiring program — featuring guest speaker Gloria Gaither, soloist Allison Speer and the music of Proclamation Gospel Choir — plus a luncheon and product displays promise to make this a special day for all.Gloria Gaither
is an advocate of family preservation, living in the moment and pure discipleship. She has touched the hearts of audiences worldwide, not only with her music and message, but also with the love of Jesus Christ. In addition to her stellar music career, she has written more than 40 books, including titles for adults and children, and created scripts for more than 100 videos. All of these pursuits have won her the respect of the academic community, and she holds honorary doctorate degrees from six universities. She has been a dynamic voice for young adults, serving on the board of directors for both the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) and the United Christian College Fund.
She has shared a mutual commitment to a “larger purpose” with her husband, soul-mate and writing partner, Bill Gaither, for fifty years. Their union has produced more than 700 songs, hundreds of recordings, numerous awards, a dozen musicals, a collection of books and — best of all — three children and seven grandchildren. They have received many Grammy Awards and Dove Awards for their many contributions to the gospel music industry. Named ASCAP Songwriters of the Century, they have also been inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and Museum.
In 2011, Bill and Gloria Gaither received the special distinction of being named as honorary alumni of the University.Allison Speer
was raised in the bluegrass fields of Kentucky. Hearing a concert by The Imperials was her first introduction to Christian music, and she was instantly passionate about the gospel word set to song. She is committed to communicating that message in everything she does. Performing internationally at megachurches, evangelistic crusades, conventions and assemblies — as well as touring solo and with the Gaither Vocal Band and Gaither Trio — has given her many opportunities to allow God to speak through her. She has also appeared on the Gaither Homecoming videos, “The 700 Club” and The Trinity Broadcasting Network. Her goal continues to be “to help others identify with the suffering of Jesus and bring clarity to the word of God through music.” Her latest recording, “The Holy Hills,” is packed with biblical truths.
In 2011, Speer began partnering with Olivet as ambassador and guest lecturer for the University. She has served as an instructor to the music ministry teams, as well as a performance and communication coach for the Department of Music.
Also featured on the program is Olivet’s Proclamation Gospel Choir
, directed by Jasper Taylor. This 80-voice, high-energy ensemble performs traditional and contemporary gospel music.
