Olivet’s child development program in the Department of Family and Consumer Sciences recently received approval as an entitled institution from Gateways to Opportunity, Illinois Professional Development System.

Gateways to Opportunity has granted Olivet’s program the following credentials through 2018: ECE Credential Level 5; Infant Toddler Credential Level 4. This gives students the opportunity to qualify for these credentials as they take courses or complete a degree.

Olivet is among a select group of institutions in Illinois to receive these credentials. All Gateways to Opportunity credentials have competencies that reflect multiple professional standards, including the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and the Illinois Professional Teaching Standards. Olivet faculty members have worked diligently to align courses with these competencies.

In a time when early childhood education is being defined as a field that promotes professional development, Olivet is now entitled to help further this goal by graduating students who are ready to provide quality care and education to young children.

Gateways to Opportunity, Illinois Professional Development System, provides guidance, support and recognition to practitioners who serve children and families in Illinois. The organization is administered through the Illinois Network of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (INCCRRA) and funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services Bureau of Child Care and Development and the McCormick Foundation. Public/private partnerships have included the Joyce Foundation, Grand Victoria Foundation and W. Clement & Jessie V. Stone Foundation.
