Professor Broers joined Olivet’s full-time faculty in 2014 after 17 years of working in the social work field. She provided counseling and case management to adults with severe and persistent mental illness in the community mental health field for five years before going into school social work.
For the last 12 years, she has worked in local schools with all age groups from preschool to 12th grade. In that setting, she led the behavioral interventions team. Her focus was on identifying obstacles to student success, and developing interventions and programs that minimize these obstacles. She loves to collect and analyze data from these interventions, especially when they reflect success.
Academically, Professor Broers has taught classroom courses in Olivet’s Master of Arts programs in counseling and online for Colorado Christian University (CCU) since 1999. She has also had the opportunity to create or revise several online class curricula for CCU.
Since 2005, she has also been in private practice with Keystone Counseling in Bourbonnais, providing counseling to children and adults. Her expertise in the areas of ADHD, mood disorders, anxiety and self-esteem has led her to present several workshops on those topics.
In her spare time, Professor Broers loves to read. She also loves to travel and is almost always planning her “next trip.” She and her husband, Tom, enjoy spending time together with family and friends. She is mom to Ben and Alex, and stepmom to Austin and Elizabeth.
