As library director, Professor Boyens leads a team of 16 in keeping Olivet’s Benner Library responsive to the needs of students, faculty and alumni. She also teaches a course in organization (cataloging) for the master’s of library science program.
In 2008, she worked closely with the administration, architects and contractors on the extensive remodeling of Benner Library. The project added a larger reference desk and an instruction computer lab where students can get training in library research and accessing online resources. Archives moved to the first floor, which made room for all the periodicals on the lower level. The Curriculum Center, with room for group study, moved to the second floor.
She was also instrumental in the implementation of Olivet’s institutional repository, Digital Commons. This website is dedicated to sharing research and scholarly publications by faculty and students.
Professor Boyens is a member of the American Library Association, Association of College and Research Librarians, and Illinois Library Association. Her professional accomplishments include serving on the board of directors for the Association of Christian Librarians. In 1998, she was chosen as Olivet’s faculty member of the year.
In her leisure time, she enjoys reading, hiking, and pursuing her interest in music by serving as church organist and choir director at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, Glenwood, Ill.
She and her husband, Carl, parent three adult children: a daughter, Karen Van Fossan, and two sons, David Van Fossan and Brent Boyens.
