Dr. Bartling serves as the dean of academic integration at Olivet. A faculty member since 2000, he began in the media and technical support area as an instructional designer in technology. In 2004, he moved to the School of Education, where as an assistant professor, he taught instructional technology courses for the undergraduate teacher education program, as well as both core education and educational technology courses for the Master of Education: Curriculum in Instruction; Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT); and Master of Library Information Specialist (MLIS) programs.
In 2007, he began working half-time as a School of Education professor, and half-time as the director of assessment and accreditation in the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies. He was promoted to associate professor in 2010; became the full-time director of graduate programs in education in 2011; moved to a director of faculty development and accreditation position in 2012; accepted a full-time administrative faculty role as associate dean in the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies in 2013; and became the dean of academic integration in July 2014.
Dr. Bartling chairs the Graduate Affairs and Continuing Studies Commission and serves on the University’s Higher Learning Commission Self-Study Team; the Teacher Education Committee; and ONU's Assessment Committee. In the past, he has served as a member of the University Steering Committee; the NCATE Executive Committee; the NCATE Steering Committee; the Faculty Retreat Committee; the March Toward Meaning Transition Team on Competence; and various technology-focused committees.
He was elected secretary of the Illinois Association of Colleges for Teacher Education in 2009 and again in 2011. He is a member of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education; Illinois Association of Teacher Educators in Private Colleges; Nazarene Educators Worldwide; Kappa Delta Pi International Honor Society in Education; and International Society for Technology in Education.
In 2011, he was accepted as a peer reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In 2012, he became a fellow in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities (CCCU) Leadership Development Institute.
He and his wife, Melinda (Jackson) Bartling ’99, have three sons, Jackson, Jeremiah and Malachi.
