Since 2004, Dr. Spittal has served Olivet in several areas, using his knowledge and expertise to help grow university programs. From 2004 to 2006, he taught nontraditional students majoring in business. Then, he directed that program for one year before becoming the dean of the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies. Today, he is a member of the administrative team and leads all graduate and continuing education programs.
He has also worked as a certified public accountant in the area of audit and tax for Payne, Gray, Groskreutz and Schmidt, CPAs; and as a senior international tax accountant for Arthur Andersen/Deloitte and Touche, Chicago.
His most recent professional publication, “The Impact of Geographic Expansion on Organizational Identity,” was published in the “Journal of General Management,” London.
Dr. Spittal is active in his community, serving on the board of directors for Provena St. Mary’s Hospital, Kankakee; as chair of Provena St. Mary’s Mission Committee; and as a member of Provena St. Mary’s Strategic Planning Committee and Finance Committee. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Illinois Certified Public Accountants Society.
He and his wife, Jennifer, are the parents of three children: son, Jack, and daughters, Kate and Quinn. One of his greatest pleasures is watching his children discover their own interests. His leisure activities include reading and baseball.
Dr. Spittal’s roots run deep at Olivet. His grandfather, Ralph Perry, was the first director of the graduate school, back in 1959. He also credits Olivet as the place where he met his wife, discovered his professional interests, and sharpened his spiritual life.
