Dr. Spruce teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses in elementary and early childhood education, with a focus in literacy. Prior to her work at the university level, she taught for seven years at elementary schools in Massachusetts and Indiana.
She has received several academic awards, including: Who’s Who in American Education; Outstanding Young Women of America; Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America; Distinguished Dissertation Award from Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society; and Olivet Nazarene University President’s Recognition of Faculty Award.
She is a member of numerous educational organizations including Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, Illinois Association of Teacher Educators of Early Childhood, International Reading Association, National Association for the Education of Young Children, National Association of Early Childhood Teacher Educators, College Instructors of the Reading Profession, Illinois Reading Council, Two Rivers Reading Council and Delta Kappa Gamma Society.
Dr. Spruce regularly attends and presents for reading and early childhood conferences, edits manuscripts for various educational publications and serves on various ONU committees.
