Katherine Nielsen

Professor Nielsen is an adjunct music professor of flute at Olivet. She teaches private flute lessons, holds weekly flute studio classes, and is the coach for Olivet’s Flute Choir and Handbell Choir. In addition, she teaches private flute lessons to students from the community.

Her primary teachers for her flute studies include Donald Peck and Jennifer Dolan-Reddick. While a student at both Olivet and CCPA, she served as the principal flutist for many concerts. One of the highlights of her career is her performance as the flutist for a chamber concert with Jake Heggie and Joyce Castle. She also participated in master classes with such artists as Jennifer Gunn, Angela Jones-Reus, and the Grammy-winning ensemble Eighth Blackbird.

Currently, she is the principal flutist for the Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra.
