Mathematics

Ph.D. (mathematics), 2012, Purdue University
B.S. (applied mathematics), 2005, Nanjing University

Joining Olivet’s full-time faculty in 2013, Dr. Cheng currently teaches courses in calculus, foundations and differential equations. She taught at Indiana University-Kokomo before coming to Olivet.

In 2012, she presented her graduate work on “Chevron structures in liquid crystal films” to the American Mathematical Society Special Session at the Joint Mathematics Meetings. Her research focused on analytically exploring the effects of temperature change on the liquid crystal structures from a mathematical point of view.

Outside of the classroom and away from the computer, Dr. Cheng enjoys music and worship. She has set a goal to learn to play the piano so that she can play hymns for personal and family devotion times. She also enjoys doing aerobics and exploring the outdoors.

She is a native of China, and her husband, Peter, is a native of Taiwan. They met through the Chinese Christian Church while they were students at Purdue. Their leisure activities include travel, watching “feel good” movies, finding the best Asian food restaurants and fellowshipping with friends. With Peter as her personal coach, she is also learning to play tennis.

Isaiah

25:1

Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.
