When Dr. McGrady began working on her master’s degree in British literature in 1989, she took an assistantship to pay for her education. She began teaching a writing course and soon realized that she loved teaching writing. She changed her program of study and received her degree in language, literacy and rhetoric.

As one of the newest members of Olivet’s faculty, she teaches college and advanced writing, business and technical writing, and advanced grammar. Prior to coming to Olivet, she taught at Palm Beach Atlantic University, Purdue University, DePaul University College of Law, Case Western Reserve University, Robert Morris College, Cedarville University and University of Illinois at Chicago.

Working with Professor Steve Butler of the business department, Dr. McGrady presents seminars on professional writing to Olivet’s business students. The goal is to equip students to make the transition from academic writing to workplace writing. She has also led resume workshops as an outreach ministry for her church.

She is a member of the National Council of Teachers of English and the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing.

Dr. McGrady has been a presenter at several professional conferences, including the Conference on College Composition and Communication; Association of Teachers of Technical Writing; and Computers and Writing. Three of her columns on writing were published in the Illinois Bar Journal, and she has published an article in The Writing Instructor. Working with her husband, Paul, a trademarks attorney, she is a contributor to McGrady on Domain Names and McGrady on Social Media.

When she isn’t grading English papers, Dr. McGrady enjoys international travel. Because of her contributions to Paul’s legal treatises, she has traveled with him to conferences in England, France, Australia, Colombia and South Korea. Their children, Lily and Danny, often join them on these trips.
