Mechanical Engineering Professor
Time Status: Full Time
Reports To: Chair, Department of Engineering
Olivet Nazarene University seeks a full-time undergraduate faculty member in Engineering.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsibilities consist primarily of teaching a broad variety of core engineering and mechanical concentration courses as part of a growing and dynamic engineering program. Other responsibilities include advising and mentoring students, supervising senior design projects, writing grant proposals, and serving on University committees. Scholarly research, consulting, and presentation at technical conferences are encouraged.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities Required:
Candidates should hold an advanced degree in Engineering with PE certification desirable; an earned Ph.D. or Doctorate of Science in Engineering is preferred. An undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related field is required. Industry experience, as well as expertise in materials, solid mechanics, manufacturing, and design is particularly desirable. Effective teaching experience, evidence of scholarly competence, passion for teaching undergraduate students, and support of Olivet’s mission are essential. Candidates should be willing to contribute to university life in areas such as academic advising, student organization advising, recruiting for the major, missions, and committee service. The candidate should also be able to clearly articulate the integration of the Christian faith and engineering practice.

Directs Work Of: The ONU Engineering program is accredited by the EAC of ABET, Inc., with concentrations in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer, and Geological Engineering. The university has recently opened the Johnson Engineering Technical Center, and the department will move in late summer 2014 into the 28,000 square feet Engineering Addition to Reed Hall of Science.
