Favorite class at Olivet: My favorite class at Olivet was constitutional law. We reviewed the major Supreme Court cases throughout American history and wrote case briefs about each one. I learned more than I ever had about the American legal system.

Best Olivet memory: All the time I spent on Chapman Third Floor. Watching football on Sundays, hanging out in the hallways or just having movie nights until 4 a.m. I had never experienced a close-knit community like that before.

Favorite ONU prof and why: Dr. David Van Heemst, better known as DVH. He is loud, passionate, incredibly caring for everyone and the smartest man ever. He creates a learning environment of spiritual and intellectual growth, fellowship and fun.

What makes Olivet different from other universities? The community. Friendships here are Christ-centered and intentional. Visiting students and families should know that the smiles you see are genuine. No doubt about it.

Hobbies: I love to read, hang out with friends and play board games. Monopoly is my favorite. Every morning, I read the New York Times while drinking my coffee.

Favorite extracurricular activity as a student: Playing intramural sports at Olivet is one of my favorite things to do! If you want to get involved, there is no better way. Plus if you win the tournament, you get a T-shirt.

Favorite college trip: I went on a three-week mission trip to Cambodia after my sophomore year at Olivet. I never in a million years thought that I would travel to Southeast Asia, but the Lord had other ideas. I imagined Cambodians to be people in need of Jesus and, like all of us, they are. I also met the strongest Christians while I was there. It was truly amazing to experience how the Lord is working in Cambodia.

Advice for new students: Olivet is a school. It is really easy to get caught up in the fact that you are away from home and that your friends are all around you 24/7. Get your school work done before the fun!

Favorite Bible verse: “Look at the nations and watch — and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not believe, even if you were told.” Habakkuk 1:5

Proverbs

2:6

For the LORD gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
