A professor at Olivet since 1993, Dr. Dalton was the founding director of the Church Growth Resource Center. He also served as the director for the Institute of Pastoral Leadership, which included two graduate programs: Master of Pastoral Counseling and Master of Church Management. Currently, he is a professor in the Department of Christian Ministry.

Before joining Olivet’s faculty, he taught in the graduate programs of Vanderbilt University, Antioch University (Yellow Springs, Ohio), Mount Vernon Nazarene University and has since taught at Africa Nazarene University and European Nazarene College. He also consulted with Caribbean Nazarene College in developing their graduate program in counseling.

In addition to his advanced degrees, he has done further studies at Wright State University (mathematics), the University of Tennessee (philosophy) and Cincinnati Bible Seminary (Hebrew).

For more than 14 years, Dr. Dalton pastored Nazarene congregations in Missouri, Tennessee and Ohio; and served as interim pastor at several congregations in Illinois and Indiana. He has collaborated with the Division of Church Growth, Pastoral Ministries, and with Compassionate Ministries of the Church of the Nazarene and is a consultant to the board of directors of the Greater Gospel Rescue Missions (U.S.).

In addition to his degrees, Dr. Dalton has done further studies at Wright State University (mathematics), the University of Tennessee (philosophy) and Cincinnati Bible Seminary (Hebrew). He is a member of the American Academy of Religion, the Religious Research Association and the Wesleyan Theological Society. He has been listed in “Who’s Who in American Universities & Colleges,” “Who’s Who in Religion,” “Who’s Who in the Midwest,” and “Who’s Who in America.”

In 2007, he participated in the 12th quinquennial Oxford Institute of Methodist Theological Studies, held at Wesley’s alma mater, Christ Church College of Oxford University. His paper was “Perfecting Worship and the New World: Formation, Discernment and Moral Transformation.”

He is the author of Discovering Christian Ministry (2016), which was commissioned and published by Beacon Hill Press of Kansas City. It is part of the new Discovering Series by Nazarene Publishing House, which replaces the aging Exploring Series from the 1950s.

Dr. Dalton is married to Martha (Gomer) Dalton of Nashville, Tennessee. She is an associate professor of music (voice) at Olivet. They attend Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene. They have three sons, John, James and Stephen.

Dr. Dalton’s busy speaking schedule includes revivals, camp meetings, retreats and at local churches throughout the region.
