Neal McMullian

Dr. McMullian has served as a professor of music at Olivet since 2002. He serves as director of bands and directs the Wind Ensemble. He teaches Harmony II, Woodwind Methods, Fine Arts, World Music, private bassoon and supervises student teachers.

He earned the Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music Education degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi, and the Doctor of Musical Arts in Music Education from the University of Georgia. His teachers include Dr. Donald Munsell, Dr. Joe Barry Mullins, Dr. William Davis, and Mr. Albert Ligotti.

He is the co-author of “Awakening the Senses to Art and Music,” a textbook for Fine Arts courses. He is a frequent adjudicator and clinician for instrumental clinics and competitions.

Prior to coming to Olivet, Dr. McMullian was chair of the Fine Arts Department and director of bands at Malone College in Canton, Ohio. During his 10 years at Malone, he initiated the band program and taught conducting, music education, music history, music theory and marching band techniques. His experience also includes 10 years of teaching in the public schools in Mississippi and Georgia.

He is a member of National Association for Music Education, Illinois Music Educators Association, National Band Association, College Band Directors National Association and International Double Reed Society.

He and his wife, Cathy, live in Bourbonnais.
