Professor Adamson joined Olivet's full-time faculty in 2015. He teaches courses in police and society, criminal law, criminology, criminal justice, corrections and fundamentals of police training.
In 2014, he completed his professional law enforcement career after serving 27½ years as a police officer with the Kankakee Police Department. He has a wealth of experience in SWAT, police administration, hostage and crisis negotiation, and firearms instruction. As an armorer, he is certified in the maintenance and repair of weapons. He has led processes relative to CALEA and ILEAP accreditation, as well as National Incident Management System (NIMS) and Incident Command System (ICS).
At the Illinois State Police Basic Academy, Professor Adamson was elected as class president of the Basic Train Class 400-18 in 1986. His career in law enforcement has included a promotion to the rank of Sergeant (1992), to Lieutenant (1998) and to Patrol Commander (2010). From 1993 to 2003, he served as the director of the Kankakee Area Metropolitan Enforcement Group (KAMEG). Chosen by the local Chiefs of Police, he was the first and only local officer to be assigned to this position.
When he served as accreditation manager for the initial accreditation process, he led the Kankakee Police Department in becoming the first police agency in Illinois to attain state accreditation (ILEAP), and also the first police agency to hold both state accreditation (ILEAP) and national accreditation (CALEA)
He is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, FBI National Academy Associates, Alpha Beta Kappa Honor Society and Golden Key International Honor Society. He has also served on the Illinois Incident Management Team.
His leisure interests include competitive handgun shooting, lifting weights, reading, traveling and spending time with his family. He and his wife, Michele, are the parents of three children: Benjamin, Joseph and Rachel.
Professor Adamson has been an active member of Calvary Bible Church in Bourbonnais since 1990, where he has served in leadership as an elder and deacon, in men's ministry, and as teacher of adult and junior high school classes. He has also participated in AWANA and Vacation Bible School, led home Bible studies, and been part of several overseas mission trips.
