Engineering

M.S. (Energy Engineering), 1981, University of Illinois at Chicago
B.S. (Mechanical Engineering), 1974, Assiut University, Egypt

Professor Ibrahim joined Olivet’s full-time faculty in 2015 after serving as an adjunct professor for two years. With his passion for sharing his knowledge and experience with younger engineers, he teaches mechanical engineering courses, particularly in the thermal-fluid sciences area. A native of Egypt, he also teaches an introductory course on Arabic language and culture.

He has maintained his status as a Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Illinois since 1993. In addition to his teaching responsibilities at Olivet, he is a design engineering consultant who works with nuclear power plants. He performs  safety evaluations and design analyses for engineering changes in nuclear power plants in Illinois and other states. He has done graduate work in mathematics and thermal sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago and Illinois Institute of Technology

Prior to his consulting and teaching work, Professor Ibrahim worked at the Braidwood (Illinois) Nuclear Power Plant as a design engineer with Exelon Generation and as a system engineer with Commonwealth Edison. He was also a technical staff engineer with the Will County (Illinois) and Fisk Coal Fired Power Plants.

Professor Ibrahim is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). From the mid-1990s — before Olivet’s engineering program had received ABET accreditation — until 2013, he served on Olivet’s Engineering Advisory Board.

He and his wife, Jeanette, are the parents of two daughters: Ruth, who is deceased, and Rebecca, a 2007 Olivet engineering graduate. Since 1986, their family has attended Kankakee First Church of the Nazarene, where he served on the Lay Leadership Council for 14 years. He also served as vice president of the Kankakee Valley Youth Symphony Orchestra Board of Directors for six years.
