In 2011, Professor Kilpatrick began his first assignment in higher education when he joined Olivet’s full-time faculty. He teaches instructional technology, introducing his students to the theory and principles of the use and integration of technologies in classroom instruction. He presents a balance of technological "gadgetry" with the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of their instruction. The goal is to better support learners of all ages, backgrounds and disciplines.
He came to Olivet from San Jose, Calif., where he taught middle school (grades 6-8) at Valley Christian Junior High and coached high school football, basketball and volleyball at Valley Christian High School. He received the school’s Teacher of the Year award in 2007 and 2009, and the Leadership Award in 2010. He also served as a youth pastor at Cambrian Park Church of the Nazarene.
Professor Kilpatrick is licensed as a professional teacher by the Association of Christian Schools International and as a minister by the Church of the Nazarene. He is certified as a coach by the American Sport Education Program and the California Interscholastic Federation. He is a member of the National Science Teachers Association.
While a student at ONU, he served as the captain of the Tiger varsity football team during the 2001 season and was named to “Who’s Who Among College and University Students 2001-2002.” Currently, he serves as the faculty athletic representative for the Tigers.
An outdoorsman at heart, he has great memories of backpacking and fishing in Yosemite and Sequoia National Forest, and canoeing on the Sacramento River in California. Also a sports enthusiast, he enjoys disc golfing, basketball, football, baseball and ice hockey.
He and his wife, Amy, have a son, Owen, and two daughters, Callie and Lanae. Playing with his children is the most fun leisure activity of all.
